Yesterday, Javi rifled through our desk drawer and pulled out a plastic bag. He looked the package over a little before he asked, “What are these?”
“What are they for?”
I explained we use rubber bands to keep things together like letters in the mail or like hair in a hair tie.
He jumped up and down saying, “Please, mama, please can I have one?”
At five years old, he hasn’t mastered letter writing, and he has a buzz cut. Needless to say, I was suspicious about his dire need for one.
“What could you possibly want a rubber band for?”
He grinned at me and said, “A miracle.”
I handed over the bag and wished him luck.
What are you trying to keep together?
