Should Old Acquaintance Be Forgot. . .

A year ago tonight, I launched this blog with the goal of keeping it going for at least a year. While I’ve skipped a week here or there, I posted roughly once a week throughout 2012. It’s one of the few New Year’s resolutions I’ve ever kept.

I have plenty of resolutions for 2013, and one of them is to spend another year sharing experiences from home and the classroom. I’m thankful for those of you keeping in touch, writing comments now and then, and offering your support and insight along the way.

The end of the year always leaves me with mixed feelings. I tend to give in to melancholy looking back over another year gone: the boys even bigger, projects left uncompleted, and resolutions that never got off the ground. Yet, when I look at the New Year ahead, I see a place filled with fresh snow, a place where you can make new tracks–maybe in a design even better than you imagined.

Tonight we made a sparkling cider toast with the boys and talked about our resolutions for the year. Javi wants to do a cartwheel, write his name in crayon, and grow up to wear big boy clothes like Papí. Joaquín wants to learn about apples and bananas and read books at school.

What big plans do you have for 2013?

This year someone asked me what my New Year’s Resolution is and at that moment I realized that I had not made one. Then a split second later I realized that I could not remember the last time I made a resolution and/or followed through with it. However, I could look back at the year and pinpoint times and events that prompted me to make changes for the year which maybe a better way for me to make changes and keep in track with those changes.

    • I like the idea of reflecting over the year and figuring out where I made changes–though if you’ve read much of the blog, you’ll know I’m a person who gets into a lot of ruts! I don’t take resolutions too seriously, which keeps the pressure off. Good luck on the New Year!
